Pokimane is the online alias of Imane Anys, a Canadian / Morrocan streamer born in 1996. She is well known and followed on the popular streaming platform, Twitch, in which she plays a variety of games and even in 2017 was named the best Twitch streamer by the Shorty Awards.
She was propelled to fame whilst attending University, in which she later dropped out. Her popularity initially grew due to her League of Legends live stream and commentary content.
Pokimane plays a few different games on a regular basis on her Twitch channel, here is a quick overview of the most common ones you’ll find her playing if you tune in:
- League of Legends
- Among Us
If you’ve spent any time watching Pokimane’s stream you’ll know how crystal clear the vocals sound and that is thanks to one of two microphones that she uses.
Make no mistake, this affordable microphone is studio quality and is great for streamers wanting to deliver crystal clear vocals on a budget. It’s got great versatility and has a wide dynamic range. It’s also got a great frequency response and transient response with its custom-engineered diaphragm which is low mass. It’s designed to reduce pickup sounds and improve sound isolation with its cardioid polar pattern.
Aside from the audio performance, it has a secure and easy-to-use mount which makes it ideal to adjust the microphone and still game.
- Affordable studio quality microphone
- Great frequency response
- Designed to reduce the sounds picked up from the side and rear
- Noise level of 20dB
- Comes with an easy to use and adjust mount
The RE20 is an industry-standard microphone used by engineers and professionals worldwide, even popular in the music production sector, making it more than suitable for streamers. It’s designed in such a way to have an internal pop filter and shock-mount to allow for close vocal work and reduce vibration noise.
The microphone is true cardioid at a 180-degree off-axis with no coloration and it’s tailored for frequency response and studio-like condenser performance. It has a few other features as well like it’s large-diaphragm, humbucking coil, and bass roll-off switch. It’s a quality 3-pin XLR design made of steel.
This microphone has been around and perfected since 1968, lasting the test of time throughout a variety of professional uses. It has Variable-D tech, which allows it to move around freely without sounding bad and minimize proximity tonal shifts.
The RE20 is a quality, outstanding and reliable microphone and if you are streaming, there aren’t too many better microphones out there that you could choose to use, or at least at this price point.
- Professional quality and studio like performance
- A popular headphone particularly amongst radio presenters
- Variable-D design & technology for close in vocal work
- Electromagnetic shielding
- 1800Hz frequency response
You’ve seen those good looking headphones that Pokimane uses, and wondered, what are they? Pokimane uses HyperX Cloud Mix headphones, which we’ll dive further into next.
If you follow this blog at all, you’ll know that we’re a big fan of most HyperX headsets, they always tend to offer a good mix of quality for the price and generally bring affordable gaming headsets to the market.
In their range, the Cloud Mix is more of the more expensive ones, but it still would fall in the affordable gaming headset price point in our opinion, if you’re serious about gaming that is.
This is primarily a wired gaming headset, thankfully, but can be detached with a braided cable if you decide to do so, thanks to its wireless technology which you can control on the headset itself. Unlike some of their cheaper headsets, this model features their dual-chamber drivers, which allows for improved quality with less distortion and more distinct sounds.
These headsets of course feature the memory foam comfy and durable earcups you come to expect on all HyperX headphones. They also have a built-in microphone which has an impedance of 40 Ohm.
- Up to 20 hours of use on one charge – or can be wired if preferred
- Certified Hi-Res audio, 10Hz to 40k Hz frequency response
- HyperX dual chamber drivers
- Memory foam earcups
- Built-in mic & detachable boom mic
It’s time to have a look at what mouse Pokimane regularly uses during her Twitch stream, and you might be surprised to find out it’s the very affordable HyperX Pulsefire FPS Pro.
The Pulsefire FPS Pro is designed for high-performance gaming, and specifically first-person shooters which require a highly accurate gaming mouse with high DPI. It has a Pixel 3389 sensor and extreme precision and accuracy with 16,000DPI! The mouse also provides feedback when clicked, which is typical of the more expensive gaming mice you can buy.
It’s comfortable to use as well, built for hours of gaming with a simple design that fits well in any hand. Importantly there are 6 easy to use programmable buttons, which makes it a good mouse to choose for MMOs as well.
It also looks the part as well, with RGB lighting allowing you to choose between millions of colors. It comes with a software called HyperX NGenuity that allows you to customize the mouse colors, adjust the DPI to your personal preference, and set macros for the 6 extra buttons.
- 16,000DPI which is adjustable
- Millions of different color options
- 6x programmable buttons
- Designed specifically for FPS gaming, which needs to be highly accurate
- Extremely affordable, under $40 currently!
Now for the keyboard, and at this point you might start recognizing a bit of a suspicious pattern. The keyboard that Pokimane uses is the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro.
PS: If you’ve skipped ahead, it’s that majority of Pokimane’s equipment is HyperX products.
Again built specifically FPS gamers due to their need for accuracy, this keyboard has 87 different keys and is built with a solid steel frame to ensure durability and stable performance over time, even for the most heavy-handed of gamers. It’s got a minimalistic design which is to maximize desk space.
Don’t think because it’s minimalist it compromises on features, it doesn’t! It has a game mode, an N-key rollover, and looks the part with its red lighting. It doesn’t feature a number pad, which is the compromise, but that is often typical of FPS players to maximize desk space for sweeping mouse movements. The keyboard also has Cherry MX key switches which ensure that key presses are reliable and precise.
Due to its size, it’s extremely portable, and it has a feature that allows you to simply detach the USB – which also prevents cable damage.
- Minimalist design that is small and portable
- Mechanical keyboard
- Solid steel frame for durable quality built to last
- GAme mode, 100% anti-ghosting and N-Key rollover
- Red backlighting
If you’ve read through this article you might clearly be able to tell that Pokimane has a lot of HyperX gear and is likely sponsored by them, so clearly has an incentive there. That being said, we don’t actually think that is a bad thing, a lot of streamers have extremely expensive gear, with keyboards, headphones, and mouses combined reaching $1k+, but HyperX is actually a bit more of a budget brand so the gear is more affordable than your average streamer.
In all honesty, we really like HyperX products, particularly the headphones and feel they generally speaking offer great value for money, so in our honest opinion you can’t go far wrong copying Pokimane’s gaming setup!
